Accelerating Transport to Zero Emissions

Accelerating Transport to Zero Emissions

Accelerating Transport to Zero Emissions - Andrew Fraser CEng FIMechE, Institution of Mechanical Engineers
September 2024 1pm

Taking cues from the work of historic engineers, who overcame some of the great economic and environmental challenges of their age, Andrew will discuss  how modern professional engineers can contribute to developing sustainable transport solutions. This presentation will explore some aspects of sustainability or various modes of transport, not just from the most common greenhouse gas “tailpipe” perspective, but also looking at other factors such as energy &  materials usage, contributions to air quality, economic effects and safety.

Andrew spent his main professional career with Ford Motor Company, in a variety of both technical and senior management positions primarily relating to powertrains and control systems. His final major role with Ford Europe was as manager for the petrol engine development group, which he led until leaving in 2019. This team was responsible for many successful powertrains, including the high-performance ST & RS models, the award-winning Ecoboost series, and the most recent mild-hybrid derivatives. Since leaving Ford in 2019, Andrew worked until January 2024 as a technical consultant with the Zemo Partnership,  helping develop and deploy zero emission road transport solutions. Andrew originally studied Mechanical Engineering at Edinburgh University. He is a Fellow of the IMechE and Chairman of the Automobile Division.
